Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (MAAA) follows these fundamental principles:

  • We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.
  • We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law or protect our rights.
  • We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the ongoing operation of one of our services.
  • We aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what’s visible to the public, seen by search engines, kept private and permanently deleted.

If you have questions about deleting or correcting your personal data please contact our info@metroaging.org.

MAAA operates metroaging.org. It is our policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website.

Website visitors

MAAA collects non-personally identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site and the date and time of each visitor request. MAAA’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how MAAA’s visitors use our website. From time to time, we may release non-personally identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of our website.

MAAA also collects potentially personally identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged-in users and for users leaving comments. MAAA only discloses logged-in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that we use and discloses personally identifying information as described below, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog where the comment was left.

Email communications

Individuals may choose to opt-in to receiving email communications from MAAA by submitting their contact information via a form on this website, through event registration or by direct request. You may remove yourself from the email list at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” on any email sent or by contacting us at info@metroaging.org or 651-641-8612 and requesting that your name be removed.

Gathering of personally identifying information

Certain visitors to MAAA’s website choose to interact with MAAA in ways that require us to gather personally identifying information. The amount and type of information that MAAA gathers depend on the nature of the interaction. Those who engage in transactions with MAAA are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, MAAA collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with MAAA. MAAA does not disclose personally identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Aggregated statistics

MAAA may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to our website. For instance, MAAA may monitor the most popular posts on metroaging.org and may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, MAAA does not disclose personally identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of certain personally identifying Information

MAAA discloses potentially personally identifying and personally identifying information only to employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on MAAA’s behalf or to provide services available at MAAA’s website, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. MAAA will not rent or sell potentially personally identifying and personally identifying information to anyone. Other than to our employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, MAAA discloses potentially personally identifying and personally identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental requests, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of MAAA, third parties or the public at large. MAAA takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally identifying and personally identifying information.

Donor privacy

When an individual chooses to make a donation to MAAA, MAAA collects name, address, email address, telephone number (optional) and credit card payment information. MAAA collects this information using online donation forms or through direct contact with a donor. MAAA uses a third-party payment gateway to process credit card payments using industry-standard security. MAAA does not have access to or store credit card information.

MAAA tracks donor information in order to report to our board, thank the donor, recognize supporters in our annual report and understand how to better attract additional donors. Only employees and contractors who need to know in order to process donations on MAAA’s behalf have access to personally identified information. Donors may elect to remain anonymous and if they do so will not be recognized in our annual report or elsewhere.

MAAA will not sell, share or trade our donors’ names or personal information with any other entity. In addition, we will not send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.

This policy applies to all information received by MAAA, both online and offline, on any platform, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

Any person can be removed from our lists used for online or offline fundraising appeals by sending a request by email to info@metroaging.org; by letter to MAAA, 3001 Broadway St. NE, Suite 601, Minneapolis, MN 55413; or by calling us at 651-641-8612. Upon receipt, we will immediately remove your name and contact information from future appeals. Donors may also contact info@metroaging.org in order to change incorrect information.
