This is an important time for MAAA. We are strengthening partnerships, exploring new approaches to support, and building resources for lasting impact. We seek thoughtful, engaged leaders to help guide what comes next.
Our Work and Impact
Based in Minneapolis, MAAA helps people age well and strengthens community capacity to support an aging population through direct assistance, advocacy and innovative approaches.
Area Agency on Aging
We invest $11 million of Older Americans Act funding for meals, transportation, in-home services and caregiver support that helps 25,000 older adults live well at home.
Minnesota Aging Pathways
We connect older adults and caregivers with the services they need; provide in-person Resource Coordination for older adults with complex needs; and bring trusted information on Medicare and community services to audiences throughout the metro.
Pension and Retirement Rights
We help workers and retirees in 12 states secure earned pension benefits through legal support provided by staff attorneys.
Dementia Inclusive Communities
We build dementia-friendly communities through education, partnerships and evidence-informed dementia care navigation that supports individuals and their care partners.
The Perspectives That Strengthen Our Board
As MAAA prepares for the future, we welcome individuals who can contribute experience, knowledge, or connections in philanthropy and fundraising, financial stewardship, business strategy, healthcare, community leadership, advocacy and public policy.
We also value lived experiences of aging, caregiving, disability and navigating systems of care. We are committed to a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and at this time especially welcome perspectives from Native American communities, residents of Anoka County and younger generations.
You do not need to be an expert in aging services to make a meaningful contribution. What matters most is a commitment to our mission and a willingness to help shape our future.
Through partnerships with community organizations and healthcare organizations, we work to bridge social care and medical care to produce more positive outcomes for individuals and communities.
What Board Service Involves
Board members guide strategy, provide oversight and accountability, steward resources, support and oversee the President and CEO and serve as ambassadors. Members participate in philanthropy and make a personally meaningful financial contribution. Board members will guide MAAA as we strengthen our impact, respond to changing needs and expand our ability to serve older adults and caregivers.
Board members serve three-year terms (up to nine years). The Board meets five times annually plus one full-day retreat, generally in person with a virtual option. Members serve on at least one committee; committees typically meet six times annually, virtually.
Conflict-of-interest rules prohibit Board membership for employees of organizations receiving Older Americans Act funds from MAAA.
